Kill the wobble

Effectively reduces and controls death wobble by stabilizing the front end and minimizing sudden handlebar oscillations. Max Racing Steering Dampers provide smoother, safer handling, especially at high speeds or on uneven surfaces where instability can compromise rider control.

Essential Stability Upgrade

A steering damper is a critical component for any motorcycle, helping reduce unwanted handlebar movement and improving overall control. It enhances safety and confidence, especially at high speeds or on uneven terrain.

Performance & Control

Designed to deliver smoother handling, Max Racing dampers minimize vibrations and instability. The result is more precise steering response and better rider feedback in both street and aggressive riding conditions.

Premium Construction

Each unit is CNC-machined from high-grade 7075-T6 billet aluminum, a high-strength alloy known for its durability and lightweight properties. This ensures long-lasting performance under demanding riding conditions.

Style & Customization

With 49 color combinations available, Max Racing Steering Dampers can be perfectly matched to any bike build. Whether you want a subtle look or a bold statement, there’s a finish to suit every rider’s style.

FAQs

Please read our FAQs page to find out more.

Are MaxRacing steering dampers compatible with handlebar risers or thicker handlebars?

It depends. It's not a problem when the Max Racing damper is mounted under the handlebar.
If the damper is mounted over the handlebar, then this may be a problem, especially If the risers move the handlebar closer to the tank. It changes the geometry of the system and makes the damper incompatible.

How does the MaxRacing hydraulic damping system work internally?

As the rider turns the handlebar, a piston moves through oil inside the damper. Oil passes through precision valves, creating resistance proportional to speed — the faster the handlebar moves, the stronger the damping force. This progressive damping means the system stays light when maneuvering slowly but firms up when sudden movement occurs. Built-in expansion chambers prevent cavitation and maintain consistent damping under heavy load.

Do I need a steering damper for street riding or only track use?

Both. While tank slappers are more common at higher speeds on the track, they can also occur on the street — from hitting a pothole, crossing railroad tracks, or accelerating hard. A steering damper provides an essential layer of safety in any riding condition, giving the rider confidence and control regardless of the situation.

What type of seals does MaxRacing use?

We use Viton-grade (FKM) seals, resistant to oil, heat (up to 200°C), and ozone. These are the same seals used in aviation and racing shock absorbers. Combined with a micro-polished stainless steel piston rod, this ensures zero fluid leaks, consistent damping performance, and long service life even under vibration or exposure to elements.

Do MaxRacing kits include everything I need?

Yes — steering damper + bike-specific mounting kit (brand/model/year). All mounting kits include CNC aluminum brackets (anodized to match the damper), stainless bolts and spacers, and pre-assembled bearing joints for alignment flexibility. Each kit is designed for bolt-on installation — no welding or drilling required.

Is the MaxRacing damper easy to install?

Yes. All MaxRacing mounting kits are bolt-on ready and pre-aligned, reducing workshop time significantly. No drilling, cutting, or welding is required. Most installations can be completed in under an hour with basic tools. We recommend a qualified motorcycle mechanic for proper torque application.

Do I need to modify my motorcycle to install a MaxRacing damper?

MaxRacing kits are designed to use existing mounting points on your motorcycle's frame, triple clamp, or fork assembly. For most bikes, the installation is non-destructive and reversible — your bike returns to stock configuration if the damper is removed, however, some model may need to trim the plastic around the ignition and some old bikes require a fixation point on the frame. More details are available in the description.

How do I adjust the damping on my MaxRacing steering damper?

Turn the precision clicker knob on the damper body. Each of the 10 or 20 adjustments (Max10 and Max20) changes the internal oil flow resistance. Start at a mid-range setting (around click 5 or 10) and fine-tune based on your riding style. Lighter settings are better for city and commuting, while stiffer settings suit sport or track riding.

What damping setting should I use for city riding vs. track riding?

For city use, set 1–3 (Max10) / 1–6 (Max20) (soft). For twisty roads, use 4–6 (Max10) / 7–12 (Max20) (medium). For track/racing, set 7–10 (Max10) / 13–20 (Max20) (hard). Adjust to preference.

Can I adjust the damper while riding?

Yes, the knob is accessible while riding on most mounting configurations, particularly top-mount setups. However, we recommend making adjustments while stopped for safety.

Does a MaxRacing damper affect low-speed handling?

At soft settings, the damper has virtually no effect on low-speed maneuvers such as parking, U-turns, or slow-speed filtering. The progressive hydraulic system ensures that resistance scales with steering speed, not steering angle — so slow, deliberate inputs pass through freely.
